I have just picked up my car from the garage, having passed her MOT. So what does this have to do with autism?
She is an old car, 29 years old. In the words of Bagpuss, a bit tatty at the seams. And not keen on hills. Other cars are not keen on her when she is crawling up hills either).
So what? Why don’t I get a new(er) car?
Because I don’t always like change. I am used to Dolly, my car, I know her ways, she still runs well. Why change her? And have to get used to another car and it’s ways.
This may be an autistic trait, why change if it is not necessary, and you are comfortable. Consistency can be nice for us, both in our surrundings and what we understand is expected from us. That helps us relax and perform to our best.
Oh yes, as regards my car and Bagpuss, Emily loved Bagpuss and I love my car.
